Thursday Morning Continuing Update
We received an update from our missionaries and all are safe as of 7:30 am (CST). Some are low on auto fuel, cell phone power, and without electricity in their apartments. However, we are now making arrangements to handled these problems.
Yesterday was an amazing day in the mission. Many of our missionaries will have some stories to tell. The loss of life yesterday was tragic and broke previous death records. The damage to homes and buildings is tremendous. There are Church members who lost everything in Tuscaloosa.
Here is a report from the Birmingham Alabama Temple President (President Kent Van Kampen): "A Super Cell produced atornado in Tuscaloosa that wiped out homes and damaged a shopping center.
The cell moved on to Birmingham where it produced what has been thought to
be an F4 tornado that passed just 3 miles south of the Temple. The swath was
a mile wide. . . . The Birmingham Temple was not touched by the tornado. We are without power
except for our emergency lighting."
As we reflect on yesterday's events we are grateful for the lives of our wonderful missionaries and sadden by the lost of life and property in the state. The people are religious and good. Their faith is expressed in what they do and say. The local government leaders are explicit in references to their individual faith and the faith in their communities. The mayor of Tuscaloosa quoted Paul (St. Paul) last night in his press conference!
The day began yesterday with a server weather warning and the first storm hit us very early. We lost complete power at the mission home (we are still without power).
